Name your favorite actor, model or musician, and it likely that they all have one thing in common; that they have been styled by Phillip Bloch. Phillip, through his clients, has shaped so many trends, and has been a style “influencer” for decades, before the term was ever coined. There is a reason that the people who could have anyone, continue to work with Phillip over & over.
Phillip started as a successful model himself, working with designers such as Jon Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, and John Galliano. He was chosen for the Jordache Jeans campaign which allowed him to go to London, where he landed the cover of the super-popular teen magazine, Oh Boy.
After his modeling career, Phillip decided to return to the US, and worked at Studio 54, before departing for LA, and starting the career that would make him famous.
His first job would be an iconic one, styling a cover for River Phoenix, which sadly was Phoenix’s last photo shoot. That photo from Spin Magazine would be used on the cover of several national magazines, after Phoenix’s untimely death. That was not his only famous cover. The Michael Jackson final two covers for Ebony Magazine, were also a seminal works of his.
Phillip quickly became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after stylists, known for bringing back glamour to Hollywood. He achieved the unheard of; dressing an unprecedented twelve celebrities for the Oscars, including Sandra Bullock, Will Smith, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, Angela Bassett, and Salma Hayek.
Phillip’s humor, quick wit, and unmatched style & fashion knowledge have him one of “the most-quoted, and most- recognized fashion brands in the world. ” Phillip was a natural fit for television, and has appeared as a fashion expert on Oprah, The View, Wendy Williams, Dr. Phil, Good Morning America The View, E!, CNN, Access Hollywood, HLN, ABC, and Entertainment Tonight. He has also appeared on HOUSE OF STYLE, AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL, CANADA’S NEXT TOP MODEL and BRITAIN’S NEXT TOP MODEL.
Phillip partnered with ABC News to produce, and host his own show, CAUSE CELEB WITH PHILLIP BLOCH. The show provided an intimate view of celebrities’ charitable and philanthropic projects; bringing attention to many worthy causes. Some of the celebrities interviewed; Mary Louise Parker, Forrest Whitaker, Kristen Bell, Ivanka Trump, Gabrielle Union, Wendy Williams, Nick Jonas and Carmelo Anthony.
He partnerships with corporations have included collaborations with General Motors, Gillette, Nivea, Hugo Boss, Bloomingdale’s, Macys, Sears, Hanes, Maybelline– the list goes on and on. When reviewing his work, it’s easy to see how much influence Phillip has had on shaping style, and predicting trends ( even creating them.)
As if that weren’t enough, Phillip Bloch is also an author of two books. His first book, ELEMENTS OF STYLE, is an coffee table book based on Phillip’s celebrity portfolio as Hollywood’s number one stylist, and gives insight into ways that non-celebrities can capture star style. Phillip’s second book, THE SHOPPING DIET – Economical and Emotional Solutions for Spending Less and Getting More, is a “self-help book focused on the psychology of overspending, and society’s addiction to shopping.” It teaches people how to understand their themselves, and in turn create their own style, and “shop smarter.”
Phillip also always makes time to use his talent for those in need. He has curated fashion shows for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and has traveled to South Africa and Botswana as a youth AIDS ambassador. He gives everything he has to the causes that are near and dear to him, especially Revlon/Avon’s Breast Cancer Awareness. Sadly, Phillip lost his mother due to disease, and honors her memory by helping others.. When tragedy strikes, Phillip has always been the first in the industry to raise funds for those in need. He did so after the September 11th, 2001 tragedy by collecting clothes from celebrity friends for an auction befitting the Twin Towers Fund. And again, in 2004 to help victims of the Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.
After speaking with Phillip, it is easy to see why people are drawn to him. To credit his talent for this would be true, but incomplete. Phillip is the rare combination of star power, talent, and kindness. Nothing demonstrates this more than how kind he was to Chance, after a mix up in which Chance interviewed him about the amazing things that he could do with garbage (confusing him with another guess on the red carpet.) To say that Phillip was gracious and kind would be an understatement. Watch the ChanceTV interview to learn more.
