Frederique van der Wal is one of the most widely-recognized fashion icons around the world. Originally hailing from the Netherlands, she has built her name in the beauty industry, in high fashion, and beyond.
Frederique has graced the cover of every top fashion magazine, worldwide; Vogue, Bazaar , Elle & Cosmopolitan to name just a few. During her career, she was the face of Revlon, Guess, and Victoria’s Secret. Hailing from The Hague, she ventured into the modelling world at eighteen years- old, after being approached to enter the annual Vision of the Elite Modeling Agency Contest.
Of her start in the industry, she has said, she was amazed that they wanted her to participate. Her motivation at the time, was to win the car offered as a prize. Little did she know that the contest would lead to national and international appearances, and a career that would give her worldwide fame.
Knowing the importance of education, before pursuing her career, she finished her studies in the Netherlands. Then it was on to Paris, which eventually led to work in New York City. She fell in love with the city, and decided to settle there permanently. After conquering the world of modeling, she set her sights on pursuing her other passions.
On the 12th of May, 2005, a lily was named in her honor. Frederique’s Choice Lily, was the first of a series of new flowers. Her love of flowers has led her to produce and host a very well-received TV series, The Invisible Journey, a documentary on the journey of a flower, from the fields to their final destinations.
Her interest in the flower industry was piqued; she premiered a second TV show; Homegrown Makeover with Frederique and Carter, co-staring with popular home makeover host, Carter Oosterhouse. The TV series aired in 2016, on The FYI Television Network. Frederique and her co-host, creatively transformed homes using beautiful flowers and plants. By bringing “the outdoors, in”, they transformed “greenery-deprived living spaces” using creative flower and plant solutions.
Her love of flowers, led her to establish her own flower company, Frederique’s choice , which was chosen to decorate Amsterdam’s International Fashion Week, and Germany’s Next Top Model. The company’s slogan, “Life in full bloom”, attests to just how much this beauty has blossomed.
On her eponymous blog, she shares everything, from practical tips to inspiring lessons and enlightening experiences. Not content to rest on her past accomplishments, she has created her newset show, LIFECYCLES.
LifeCycles highlights the real stories of New Yorkers; Frederique interviews her celebrity friends, and fellow New Yorkers, discussing various aspects of their lives, their experiences, as well as challenges of life in the Big Apple.

Her work outside of the modeling industry has not gone unnoticed; She was asked to be a guest lecturer at Harvard University, and was also a recipient of the Marie Claire Entrepreneur of the Year award.
